Pepperoni rolls are strongly associated with West Virginia, but they are familiar across coal and steel country, including southwestern Pennsylvania.

  • 1 pound pizza dough
  • 36 pepperoni slices or 12 pepperoni sticks
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella, optional
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

Method
 

Instructions
  1. Divide dough into 12 pieces and flatten each piece.
  2. Add pepperoni and cheese if using. Pinch dough closed around filling.
  3. Place seam-side down on a baking sheet and let rise 30 minutes.
  4. Bake at 375 degrees until golden, 18 to 22 minutes.
  5. Brush with melted butter mixed with garlic powder.

Notes

  • Good warm or room temperature.
