Southern Peach Cobbler

Peach cobbler is the dessert to make when the fruit is good and nobody wants anything fussy. Serve it warm with vanilla ice cream.

  • 4 cups sliced peaches, fresh or thawed frozen
  • 1 cup sugar, divided
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 cup self-rising flour
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup butter, melted
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon, optional

Method
 

Instructions
  1. Heat oven to 350 degrees. Toss peaches with 1/2 cup sugar and lemon juice.
  2. Pour melted butter into a 9-by-13-inch baking dish.
  3. Whisk flour, remaining sugar, milk, and cinnamon if using until smooth. Pour over butter without stirring.
  4. Spoon peaches and juices over batter without stirring.
  5. Bake 40 to 50 minutes until golden and bubbling.

Notes

  • Use less sugar if peaches are very sweet.
  • Good with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
